The research project tackles the load-bearing behaviour of pile foundations under combined loading, as can occur, for example, in bridge abutments or jackets of offshore wind turbines. In current design practice, the influence of lateral and axial loading is considered separately, although the interaction of the load components has been shown to influence the bearing capacity of the pile foundation. Depending on the load constellation, this influence can manifest itself in an increase or in a decrease in the bearing capacity. In this project, an integrative design concept will be developed, which allows a more reliable and concurrently more economical design by simultaneously taking into account all load components and thus both the negative and, if applicable, the positive load interactions. The influence of the different load components will be investigated numerically and experimentally.
