Research at the Chair of Geotechnical Engineering

MAIN AREAS OF RESEARCH

In research, our chair deals with questions from various subject areas. One area is the safety and reliability of geotechnical structures. With the future generation of Eurocode 7, reliability-based design is becoming increasingly important. In this context, our chair deals with the practical application of probabilistic methods and the investigation of model uncertainties of geotechnical design procedures, etc. Another focus of our research activities are questions at the interface of water and soil. Currently, we are working on the anchoring of floating offshore structures, especially on the load-bearing behaviour of screw anchors, as well as on the modelling of the foundation within the dynamic structural analysis.

In addition, geotechnical aspects of flood protection in a regional context are dealt with within the Cooperation in the Research Institute Water and Environment. Other topics in the field of soil-structure interaction are the behaviour of shallow and piled foundations under complex loading, the bearing behaviour of full displacement drilled piles and subsoil improvement through soil conditioning.

The members of our chair pursue a regular exchange and are active in various committees and working groups, e.g.

•    DIN Working Committee Safety in Earthworks and Foundation Engineering
•    DIN Working Committee Wind Energy Plants
