Tradition

The tradition of hydraulic engineering and water management in Siegen dates back to 1853. In that year, the Siegen School of Meadow Construction was founded, which trained melioration technicians and meadow construction masters, who gained high reputation both nationally and internationally due to their professional training.

The Siegener Wiesenbauschule continued to develop steadily. Thus, first the Kulturbauschule was established, then the Bauschule für Wasserwirtschaft und Kulturtechnik, then the Ingenieurschule für Bauwesen, until finally the Universität-Gesamthochschule Siegen (today: University of Siegen) was founded in 1972.
