Learning Outcomes / Competences

  • Acquisition of comprehensive skills for dimensioning and design of steel composite structures in building and bridge construction
  • Competences for calculation in the ultimate and serviceability limit states (ULS, SLS)

Teaching Contents

  • design and construction of steel composite beams (single and multi-span) for building construction, ultimate limit state (ULS) verifications (elastic and plastic moment bearing capacity, shear force, M-V interaction, time-dependent behaviour (creep, shrinkage))
  • serviceability limit state (SLS) design, cracking
  • design and construction of steel composite columns
  • design and construction of steel composite slabs

Type of examination

Written examination, 180 minutes

Prerequisite for admission to the examination

Preparatory assessments on specified topics

Additional remarks

The elective module Steel composite construction requires good knowledge of Steel Construction I, Steel Construction II as well as engineering mechanics and structural mechanics.
