Fields of research
The research of the Chair of Structural Concrete focuses on the following topics:
- Design and construction with ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC),
- Shear bearing behaviour of reinforced concrete members,
- Mechanics of fibre reinforced concrete (FRC),
- Retrofitting of reinforced and prestressed concrete structures in building and bridge construction,
- Innovative facade constructions,
- Serviceability of reinforced concrete structures.
The Chair of Structural Concrete is also involved in the Institute for Advanced Materials and Structures (FiBB) at the University of Siegen. There, it is working interdisciplinary within the School of Science and Technology as well as with other research teams and with the local building industry in the field of research, assessment and development of sustainable building materials and structures.
Current research projects
Current research projects deal with the following questions:
- Highly stressable thin-walled duct segments made of ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC)
- Shear bearing behaviour of slender reinforced concrete members without shear reinforcement with a low ratio of longitudinal reinforcement
- Inclination of cracks and bearing behaviour of prestressed UHPFRC girders subjected to shear
Accomplished research projects
- Influence of cross-section height and maximum aggregate size on the flexural tensile strength of ultra-high performance concrete
- Strength-independent design approach for beams reinforced with steel fibres and reinforcing steel
- Modularised columns made of ultra-high performance fibre-reinforced concrete (UHPFRC)
- Influence of the method of filling the beam moulds on the homogeneity of fibre distribution and orientation and on the reproducibility of the results of three-point bending tests on ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC)
- Effect of fibre distribution and fibre orientation on the residual flexural tensile strength of ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC)
- Effect of fibre orientation on the compressive strength of ultra-high performance fibre reinforced concrete (UHPFRC)
- Ultrasonic characterisation of steel fibre orientation in ultra-high performance concrete
- Deriving the post-cracking tensile strength of ultra-high performance steel fibre reinforced concrete from bending tests
- Effect of specimen geometry on the compressive strength of ultra-high performance concrete
- Bond in glass-rigid foam-concrete sandwich elements
- Repair and retrofitting of existing structures by application of ultra-high performance concrete
